Things got heated on Monday’s episode of “The View” when Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas) called out New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo (D) for his COVID-19 nursing home deaths.

During the early part of Cruz’s interview, things seemed to be going well, as the hosts appeared to be getting along with him as they talked about President Donald Trump’s taxes, healthcare and the Supreme Court vacancy.

“While the questions were hostile, the hosts didn’t melt down in rage as they typically do until the very end when Cruz triggered Joy Behar for countering her coronavirus narrative,” Media Research Center analyst Kristine Marsh wrote for Newsbusters. “As each host tried and failed to trap the Republican Senator with liberal talking points, Joy Behar lost her patience at the end of the interview when talking about shutdowns and coronavirus.”

Behar was particularly angry that Florida’s Governor Ron DeSantis had allowed bars and restaurants to open, and she asked if Cruz would do the same thing. Cruz responded by saying that he wants to open the economy back up, adding that the death rate has been much lower in Florida and Texas than in Democrat-run states.

“New York in particular has led the country in death rate, and I think it had a lot to do with the Democratic governor there — Governor Cuomo — sending people who had COVID into nursing homes,” Cruz said.

This was enough to cause Behar to come unglued.

That’s not true,” Behar shot back.

“Well, the death rate is three times as high as the death rate in Florida and Texas,” Cruz said Behar attempted to talk over him.

“I asked you about DeSantis. Answer me about DeSantis, please,” Behar said. “I’m talking about Florida right now, not New York. New York got hit very early, and a lot of people were coming in without any kind of sanctions on it.”

Cuomo has been hit with heavy backlash for forcing nursing homes to nursing homes to take patients who tested positive for COVID-19 back in March, despite the fact that there were testing deficiencies for staffers and residents alike, according to Fox News. He signed an executive order two months later stopping this practice, but it was already too late by then for the many nursing home residents who had become infected with coronavirus and lost their lives.

“The policy of the governors of New York and New Jersey of sending people who were COVID positive into nursing homes,” Cruz continued, undeterred by Behar’s interruptions.

“Deflection,” Behar said. “You are deflecting, sir.”

Clearly upset that Cruz was continuing to call out their beloved Cuomo, the cohosts then moved to another topic.
