Former President Barack Obama spoke out in a new ad for Joe Biden to claim that President Donald Trump’s White House is “working to keep people from voting.”

“Hey, roommates, Barack Obama here. Yes, coming to you from The Shade Room. As you know the election is coming up and I’ve got just one word for you: vote. Actually I’ve got two: vote early,” Obama said in the ad, which was posted on popular Black entertainment news sites such as The Shade Room and The Young, Black, and Fabulous, according to Fox News.

“Right now, from the White House on down, folks are working to keep people from voting, especially communities of color,” Obama continued, going on to say that “our democracy itself” is at stake in the November election. The former president concluded by urging viewers to make a plan to vote early.

This comes after Obama has stepped things up in pushing for Americans to vote for Biden in recent weeks. Last week, Obama marked National Voter Registration Day by posting a video in which he stakes of the election are “bigger than Joe or the man he’s running to replace.”

“What’s at stake is whether or not our democracy endures,” Obama added in the video. “And the folks in power are hoping that you stay at home.”

Obama also pushed for people to vote for Biden while speaking at the Democratic National Convention.

“This administration has shown it will tear our democracy down if that’s what it takes to win,” Obama said before accusing Trump of having “shown no interest in putting in the work, no interest in finding common ground, no interest in using the awesome power of his office to help anyone but himself and his friends.”

Not stopping there, Obama continued attacking Trump and his allies.

“They know they can’t win you over with their policies. So they’re hoping to make it as hard as possible for you to vote, and to convince you that your vote doesn’t matter,” he said.

So much for “when they go low, we go high.”
