Earlier this week, the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences announced a series of new “inclusion” and “diversity” requirements for Best Picture contenders at the Oscars. Afterward, former “Cheers” star Kirstie Alley spoke out to blast the Academy for this, saying, “you people have lost your minds.”

The Academy revealed on Tuesday that beginning in 2024, in order to be considered for Best Picture, “films must meet two of four standards which are on-screen representation, themes, and narratives; creative leadership and project team; industry access and opportunities; and audience development,” according to PEOPLE magazine.

This did not sit well with Alley, however.

“This is a disgrace to artists everywhere…can you imagine telling Picasso what had to be in his [f***ing] paintings. You people have lost your minds. Control artists, control individual thought… OSCAR ORWELL,” the actress wrote in a tweet that has since been deleted, according to Daily Wire.

“I deleted my first tweet about the new rules for best movie OSCARS because I feel it was a poor analogy & misrepresented my viewpoint. I am 100% behind diversity inclusion & tolerance,” Alley later explained. “I’m opposed to MANDATED ARBITRARY percentages relating to hiring human beings in any business.”

Alley wasn’t the only Hollywood star who felt this way. Former “Superman” star Dean Cain retweeted her post, and two-time Academy Award nominee James Woods called the new regulations “madness.”

One Twitter user responded to Woods by writing, “It’s funny how I love the movies and television but yet there were not to many people that look like me. Now to find out that some of my favorite actors are not inclusive is very disappointing,” tagging both Alley and Cain.

Alley was still not backing down, however.

“I’m more inclusive than the people who wrote that crap,” she said. “The best kind of inclusion is to make hundreds of movies & TV episodes about real minority stories, not some gimmicky math equation to APPEAR inclusive. UR right l! Not enough content that looks like U or other minorities!”

It’s good to see that at least one person is not afraid to take a stand against the radically liberal world of Hollywood.
