The Center for Voter Information, a nonprofit group, is under fire for accidentally sending over 500,000 applications for absentee ballots in Virginia.

Applications not only went out in error, according to the group, but were addressed to dead voters and at least one pet.

The mistake only furthers concerns about procedural integrity we as approach a highly divisive election in November.

The Center for Voter Information has since apologized for the blunder saying, “Approximately half a million applications sent to eligible voters in Virginia included incorrect information, and we are working diligently to address the issues. Mistakes in our programming are very rare, but we take them seriously, and our methods overall are extraordinarily effective.”

They continued, “We know that voters are on high alert as the November election approaches, and we regret adding to any confusion. Please rest assured that we are working with local election officials in Virginia to re-direct the vote-by-mail applications to the proper locations, and will rectify any errors at our own expense.”

According to the League of Women Voters President Deb Wake, “one person stated that a dead person received one and a pet received one.”

There were several other residents and organizations who flagged the application as odd, or being sent to someone that should not be voting.

The incident comes on the heels of several mistakes of a similar nature across the country, such as individuals receiving multiple mail-in ballots, a cat receiving a ballot in Atlanta that had been deceased for 12 years and a NY congressional race that took six weeks to determine due to issues with the mail-in voting process.

Point being, much of the American public were concerned about voter fraud, transparency and the delays mail-in elections would cause and these “accidents” continue to prove, people are leery for good reason.
