If you ever wonder that our elite, especially our youth and young adults still in or fresh out of leftist indoctrination, some Major League Soccer (MLS) players gave us a reminder the other day. Seeming not to have even the glint of a clue, some fans booing at the teams who kneeled for the national anthem and American flag shocked Reggie Cannon of FC Dallas. According to Fox News, Mr. Cannon said, “I think it was disgusting.”

Wait… I’m pulling a red card here, folks. Fans, many of them probably veterans, some maybe cops, and others just patriotic Americans who respect the American flag and anthem became upset at a bunch of whiny athletes disrespecting one of our nation’s most sacred traditions—in Texas. And he is disgusted? Again, another example of living in Bizarro World where everything is backward.

One article I read called it a “smattering of fans booed.” Well, they’re only letting in a smattering of fans to watch the game, apparently attempting to “normalize” attendance.

Cannon, a defender, reiterated, “I think it was absolutely disgusting.” Wow! How self-unaware can a person be? Both the FC Dallas and Nashville SC teams knelt during the national anthem. As Fox News reported, they “were booing as players knelt in protest of racial injustice and police brutality.”

And that’s the crux. While I believe racial injustice in more nuances, my concern is with supposed “police brutality.” Mr. Cannon and his teammates and opponents are kneeling in deference to a myth. To believe in systemic racial injustice, we first have to believe the “system” is racist. But the system in every jurisdiction that is complaining the loudest about these supposed atrocities are the system—has been for decades.

Chicago hasn’t had a Republican mayor since the 1930s. And yet they continue to blame the Republicans and President Trump for all that ails the Windy City. But these are the folks who are creating situations where professional athletes, living in their leftist bubbles, believe myths and lies. In fact, they’ve had the myths and lies tattooed on their souls at this point. They wouldn’t recognize the truth if it took them out in the penalty box.

It used to be academia wouldn’t teach students what to think but how to think. After all, how to think critically is a benefit crucial to success and civil society. The famous saw, “I may not agree with what you say, but I will defend to the death your right to say it,” is dead. It used to be the opposing political parties that held this ethic. Today, only one major political party seems to believe in free speech.

So, now we have young people who’ve been taught what to think because if they don’t think that way, they are bad people. Many of them accepted the premise. Now, we have athletes like Mr. Cannon who claim to be shocked when people don’t award him a participation trophy for endorsing a radical political agenda. All while growing up, little Reggie got his trophy whether or not his team won. Now, those fans awarded him a bit of truth, and he doesn’t know what to do with it.

Mr. Cannon worked hard and got good enough to become a professional soccer player. He demonstrated to everyone how to achieve the American Dream—demonstrated to everyone but himself, apparently. He doesn’t recognize that it is an exceptional country that has allowed him the opportunity for success. And what does he do with that success? He disrespects the national anthem and American flag to call attention to something that doesn’t exist: Systemic police brutality and racism.
