The city of Minneapolis, Minnesota is essentially telling residents that they are on their own as the city continues to be plagued with crime.

In a letter that was written on July 28, Minneapolis city government officials told residents of the 3rd precinct what to do if they are targeted by carjackers or robbers.

“Robberies and Carjacking’s have increased in our precinct. Cell phones, purses, and vehicles are being targeted. Some victims have been maced, dragged, assaulted, and threatened with a gun,” the letter stated. “100 Robberies and 20 Carjackings have been reported to the 3rd Precinct Police in July alone.”

Instead of increasing police presence in crime-ridden areas, however, the letter goes on to tell residents to protect themselves if they are victimized by a criminal. In a section of the letter called “Robbery Prevention Tips,” residents are told, “Be prepared to give up your cell phone and purse/wallet.”

The letter later tells residents that if they are confronted by a robber, “do as they say.”

Violent crime has been escalating in Minneapolis since the death of George Floyd, who died in police custody in the city back in May. The Democrat-controlled Minneapolis City Council has since voted to defund the police, and is searching for alternative forms of traditional policing.

Unsurprisingly, the violence in Minneapolis has only increased since the police were defunded.

Minneapolis resident Tania Rivera said that she saw a major increase in shootings in her neighborhood in the wake of Floyd’s death. Things got so bad that her neighborhood installed a gate on their road to keep outsiders out, with the permission of police, according to Insider.

“It got to the point where crime had no consequences,” Rivera said. “It was being done deliberately out in the open. Drive-through drug dealing, drive-through prostitution, everything from gunshots to assaults to sex out in the public. Everything you didn’t want your neighborhood to look like.”

This just goes to show that despite what liberals say, defunding the police is never a good idea.
