Presumptive Democratic vice presidential nominee Senator Kamala Harris is a member of a political party that despises religious faith, especially all Christian belief. No surprise there. You’d have to have lived under a rock since the 1960s not to realize that. Today it seems Harris holds a special ire for the Roman Catholic faith. In many ways this is not exactly an epiphany.

Though demographically diverse, Catholics in this nation are predominantly made up of those of Irish and Italian heritage. Starting out in America in the 19th century, discriminated against and at the lower rungs of the socioeconomic ladder, these Catholics did more than whine about it and blame others. Over generations of hard work and education they clawed their way out of the tenements and out of the Democratic Party. At present both groups are by and large prosperous and generally vote Republican.

The hard left and its acolytes like Harris will never forgive their success or political apostasy and target Catholics much more than they do all other religious groups combined.

Former House Speaker Newt Gingrich understands their bigotry: “Presumptive Democratic presidential nominee Joe Biden’s choice as his vice presidential running mate — Sen. Kamala Harris, D-Calif.— is the most openly anti-Catholic bigot to be on a national ticket in modern times. Harris’ record is perfectly clear. She is openly anti-Catholic in confirming federal judges, wanting to prosecute the Little Sisters of the Poor, closing Catholic Hospitals that don’t join her union allies, and favoring taxpayer-paid abortions up until birth.” Harris is a Know-Nothing in more than her mental capacity.

Gingrich also wrote, “The most explicit example of Harris’ anti-Catholic bigotry was her treatment of now-U.S. District Judge Brian Buescher during his Senate confirmation hearing.”

Alexandra DeSanctis followed up on the Buescher story in conservative flagship journal National Review, “Buescher eventually was confirmed…but the fact remains that Harris was guilty of reprehensible anti-Catholic bigotry, and there’s no reason to believe her views have changed.”

The Wall Street Journal also noticed Harris’ loathing of Catholicism: “Ms. Harris’s embrace of religious intolerance is especially significant because in two years she could be the next U.S. President. What does it say about today’s Democrats that no one in the party of Al Smith and JFK sees fit to rebuke her?”

And Catholics have not been spared the hatred of Democrat-sponsored groups like Antifa and Black Lives Matter. “In recent weeks, several Catholic churches have faced attacks and acts [of] desecration. Last month, [a] church in Ocala, Florida was set aflame while parishioners inside prepared for morning Mass. A California mission founded by St. Junipero Serra was also burned in a fire and is being investigated as an arson case, while several statues of Serra have also been pulled down. A statue of the Virgin Mary was beheaded at a parish in Chattanooga, Tennessee. In Boston, a statue of Mary was set on fire, and in Brooklyn, a statue was tagged with the word ‘IDOL’ in black spray paint,” reported the Catholic News Agency.

While anti-Catholic bias is not totally reserved for the right, in conservative circles it is an aberration promoted by ahistorical cretins. On the Left it is pervasive and part of the very fabric of the ideology. Though one must admit, the current pope does not do the church’s reputation any favors.

Gingrich bats clean up: “The consequences of Harris’ openly anti-Catholic bias will be felt as other anti-Catholics draw encouragement from her bigotry to increase the activism and intensity of their assaults on Catholic institutions and Catholic personalities. If left unchecked, it will doubtlessly spread to attacks on other religious people and organizations that don’t hold to radical Democratic ideology.”

In overall analysis, no Catholic with a clear conscience can support a Democrat ticket that openly advocates against their moral, historical, and cultural foundations. As Americans as a whole are a people who believe in the constitutional rights of all faiths to practice unencumbered, they should reject Biden, Harris, and all the anti-religious hate they would bring to the White House.
