ICE officials find ‘most sophisticated tunnel in history’ along Arizona and Mexican border

Human traffickers and smugglers designed and built it.

Like a scene from the 1960s film “The Great Escape,” ICE officials last week discovered a 1300 foot sophisticated underground tunnel system that ran from the Mexican side of the southern U.S. border to just over the boundary in San Luis, Arizona. The smuggling operation includes a full ventilation system, electrical wiring, and an actual working railroad.

It was found in late July, before it could be completely finished. The tunnel was three feet wide and four high. It was likely to be used not only for human smuggling and trafficking, but for illegal drug smuggling, and possibly for terrorist infiltration. There are very probably many more like it, as the United States is literally being invaded from beneath the ground.

Border Patrol Yuma Sector’s Acting Chief Patrol Agent Carl Landrum said Thursday, “This appears to be the most sophisticated tunnel in U.S. history, and certainly the most sophisticated I’ve seen in my career. We will continue to work closely with our partners – Homeland Security Investigations and state and local agencies — to provide the best national security possible.”

Earlier this year another tunnel was found that ran from Tijuana to San Diego. From Fox News, “The tunnel originated near the Otay Mesa Port of Entry and measured 4,309 feet long — more than three-quarters of a mile. The next-longest tunnel in the U.S., discovered in San Diego in 2014, was 2,966 feet long.”

“As the U.S. continues to take on the challenges posed by COVID-19, we must secure our borders from illegal aliens who show their complete disregard of even the most basic application of health and safety precautions, which have become our new norm against COVID-19,” said CBP Commissioner Mark Morgan.

He further clarified that criminals and smugglers give false promises to migrants and “have no concern for their safety or the safety of American citizens — again in this backdrop of COVID-19.” The illegals are stored in crowded and filthy disease-ridden stash houses for up to a week in the scorching heat before infiltration, a scene he described as a “perfect incubator” for coronavirus.

The smugglers who built this wall are likely eagerly anticipating the November American presidential election and a potential Biden win. If that happens the smugglers and human traffickers won’t need to employ elaborate underground systems anymore. As they will find few if any impediments to business. They will just casually stroll across the unmanned border to the U.S. destination of their choice, secure in the knowledge that ICE and CBP have been neutered to the point of irrelevance.

Gone will be the wall that currently stops them dead in their tracks. Removed will be the electronic surveillance gear that monitors their movements towards the border. And absent will be a president committed to the territorial integrity of the United States. He’ll have been replaced by a tool of the hard left who will accede to their every demand on completely open borders and much else. Steve McQueen, call your office.
