On Thursday, the U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ) charged that Yale University discriminates against white and Asian applicants in its admissions process. This factor is yet another example of the pervasive racism that infects liberal institutions like the Ivy League.

And what does the elite education do for graduates of its hallowed halls? A recent incident showcases the Marxist indoctrination taking place on Ivy League campuses. Two Ivy-trained lawyers in New York City are facing decades in prison after allegedly firebombing a police car during recent riots in the Big Rotten Apple. The DOJ has had enough of this vicious leftwing racism that leads to violence. Hence its charges on Thursday.

“Yale grants substantial, and often determinative, preferences based on race to certain racially-favored applicants and relatively and significantly disfavors other applicants because of their race,” said a DOJ attorney in a letter to the school. “Yale’s race discrimination imposes undue and unlawful penalties on racially-disfavored applicants, including in particular Asian American and white applicants… The likelihood of admission for Asian American and white applicants who have similar academic credentials is significantly lower than for African American and Hispanic applicants to Yale College. For the great majority of applicants, Asian American and white applicants have only one-tenth to one-fourth of the likelihood of admission as African American applicants with comparable academic credentials.”

Yale, with typical sanctimony and obfuscation, responded, “We are dismayed that the DOJ has made its determination before allowing Yale to provide all the information the Department has requested thus far. Had the Department fully received and fairly weighed this information, it would have concluded that Yale’s practices absolutely comply with decades of Supreme Court precedent,” said a spokeswoman for Yale, in a statement.” Though Yale insisted that it intends to continue its racist admissions policies for the “foreseeable future.”

The double talk proceeded: “We take into consideration a multitude of factors, including their academic achievement, interests, demonstrated leadership, background, success in taking maximum advantage of their secondary school and community resources, and the likelihood that they will contribute to the Yale community and the world.”

Is Yale saying that white and Asian high school students demonstrate far lower achievement in the above areas? If so, why haven’t they provided data to back up their claim? But Yale doesn’t rely on data. It buttresses its racism on the tired PC orthodoxy that whites are responsible for all the ills of the world. Which is interesting, as the vast majority of the Yale staff is white. As such, cultural masochism plays much more of a role in the Yale admissions process than does any analysis of secondary school achievement.

As for Asians, it is likely Yale and other Ivy League campuses resent the strong sense of traditional family and cultural practices in the Asian community and have decided to make them pay a price for their apostasy from the Ivy League Marxist-infused company line.
