Things that make you go “hmmm,” right?
You’ll recall the big hoopla that occurred when U.S. Attorney General Bill Barr suddenly (and rather mysteriously) fired the U.S. attorney representing the Southern District of New York. Since then, there’s been more movement.
The top federal prosecutor in Manhattan, who has investigated President Trump’s closest associates, was refusing to leave his position on Saturday after Attorney General William P. Barr tried to fire him, setting up an extraordinary standoff over the independence of law enforcement and the president’s purge of officials he views as disloyal.
Mr. Barr abruptly announced the resignation late Friday night of the prosecutor, Geoffrey S. Berman, United States attorney for the Southern District of New York, whose office has been at the forefront of corruption inquiries into Mr. Trump’s inner circle. The office successfully prosecuted the president’s former personal lawyer, Michael Cohen, who went to prison, and has been investigating Mr. Trump’s current personal lawyer, Rudolph W. Giuliani.
The feathers were flying over that decision. Geoffrey Berman even went so far as to refuse to leave his post. That’s when President Trump got involved and effectively pushed the man out.
President Trump has removed Geoffrey Berman, the U.S. attorney for the Southern District of New York, from office, ending the tenure of a top Justice Department official whose office has overseen the prosecutions of several of the president’s associates.
Attorney General William Barr announced the termination Saturday, less than a day after initially suggesting that Berman was resigning — only to be contradicted by Berman himself.
Now, suddenly, Jeffrey Epstein’s #1 loyalist and the woman who we’re told can bring a zillion powerful people down has been arrested after “evading capture” for eons.
Ghislaine Maxwell, the British socialite and heiress who became a confidante of disgraced financier Jeffrey Epstein and was later implicated in his alleged sexual crimes, has been arrested by the FBI, two senior law enforcement sources tell News 4 New York.
She was arrested in Bedford, New Hampshire around 8:30 a.m. on charges she conspired with Epstein to sexually abuse minors, and is expected to appear in a federal court later today, the sources say.
The six-count indictment in Manhattan federal court alleges that Maxwell helped Epstein groom girls as young as 14 years old, going back as far as 1994.
“In some instances, Maxwell was present for and participated in the sexual abuse of minor victims,” the indictment says.
The daughter of media baron Robert Maxwell, Ghislaine was a one-time girlfriend of Epstein’s and was at the high-flying investor’s side for decades.
But she was also alleged to have helped Epstein groom teen girls for sex with the rich and powerful. One of those teens, Virginia Roberts Giuffre, leveled that charge against Maxwell in a 2015 defamation suit, as have a number of other women since.

Time-wise, it’s really quite a coincidence, isn’t it? That’s what one conservative reporter said today in a tweet that got a lot of people buzzing. Emerald Robinson, who works for conservative outlet Newsmax, tweeted the following: “It’s interesting that AG Barr forced out the US Attorney for the Southern District of New York last week for unknown reasons, and suddenly Ghislaine Maxwell is arrested.”

It will be interesting to see how this unfolds. But my biggest concern at this point is keeping this woman safe from “committing suicide.” Someone needs to strap 40 GoPros on her body with a 24/7 live prison-cam for everyone to observe and keep an eye on her.
