A police officer from Las Vegas, Nevada is currently on life support after being shot in the back of the head during riots on Monday night.

A source told 8 News Now that the officer was in a physical struggle with a suspect when someone walked up behind him and shot him in the head. The gunman was immediately arrested and taken into custody at around 2:00 a.m.

Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department Sheriff Joe Lombardo said that in a second shooting, officers were trying to protect the federal building from rioters when a man with “multiple firearms who appeared to be wearing body armor” reached for a gun. He was immediately shot by officers and pronounced dead at the scene.

“This is a sad night for the [local police] family and a tragic night for our community,” Lombardo said, according to CBS News. “With these protests, which are leading to riots, one tragedy is only leading to another… What has occurred is utterly unacceptable. I hope the community sees it that way, too.”

These incidents occurred as riots continued to escalate over the death of George Floyd, who died in police custody a week ago in Minneapolis, Minnesota. Police officials in Las Vegas said that a total of 338 people had been arrested in the first three days of the demonstrations, and that number is expected to only go up in the coming days.

These tragic incidents in Las Vegas show just how dangerous things have become for America’s police officers. The mainstream media has glorified the riots against them to the point where crazed protesters actually think shooting cops is acceptable, and even heroic.

Please keep the injured Las Vegas police officer in your thoughts and prayers as he continues to fight for his life.
