On an April 2017 appearance on PBS News Hour, former Obama National Security Adviser Susan Rice was asked about charges that members of President Donald Trump’s transition team were surveilled before he took office. Trump had alleged this while even on the campaign trail. He was derided as paranoid by the very same people like Rice who knew of the surveillance.

PBS anchor Judy Woodruff probed Rice on the question: “In the last few hours, we’ve been following a disclosure by the chairman of the House Intelligence Committee, Devin Nunes, that in essence, during the final days of the Obama administration, during the transition after President Trump had been elected, that he and the people around him may have been caught up in surveillance of foreign individuals and their identities may have been disclosed. Do you know anything about this?” It was a very straightforward question. Rice, we now know, lied.

“I know nothing about this. I was surprised to see reports from Chairman Nunes on that count today.” Not only did she know, she was likely part of the team who advised it.

Rice said “nothing of the sort occurred.” She also said “no president, no White House can order the surveillance of another American citizen. That can only come from the Justice Department with the approval of a FISA court. That means that the target was either a foreign entity or somebody under criminal investigation and that the Americans who were talking to those targets may have been picked up.”

But her own recently uncovered emails contradict her story. In one section of an ongoing exchange between principal officials in the Obama regime, FBI Director James Comey confirmed to Obama he was going “by the book,” and discussed concerns about Flynn’s conversations with Russia’s ambassador. Those conversations would play a part later in the FBI set up against Flynn.

Rice sized up matters in her email: “From a national security perspective, Comey said he does have some concerns that incoming NSA Flynn is speaking frequently with Russian Ambassador [Sergey] Kislyak. Comey said that could be an issue as it relates to sharing sensitive information.” Then Obama asked Rice if Comey was saying that the NSC should not pass sensitive information related to Russia to Flynn.

Rice wrote: “Comey replied, ‘potentially.’ He added that he has no indication thus far that Flynn has passed classified information to Kislyak, but he noted that ‘the level of communication is unusual.'” That is a smoking gun. She claimed she knew nothing? There it is. She even knew details.

In a statement Tuesday about the email’s release, a representative for Rice said that “no discussion of law enforcement matters or investigations took place, despite accusations to the contrary… Ambassador Rice did not alter the way she briefed Michael Flynn on Russia as a result of Director Comey’s response.”

It is a particular trait of progs and those who hate President Trump to ignore their own realities. Evidence like this, so blatant as to be certain, comes to light and they blithely ignore it and claim the opposite. This, and other matters like it, are perfect examples of their loose grip on the truth and even objective facts. But, there is no contradicting her recorded words on video and email. Rice has been caught.
