Simon Cowell just took to Twitter to share a preview of the highly-anticipated new season of “America’s Got Talent,” and the clip he posted has people more excited than ever for the reality competition show.
Daily Mail reported that the clip shows the audition of Archie Williams, who was wrongfully imprisoned for 37 years after a woman was stabbed and raped in her home back in 1982. The judging panel was brought to tears when Williams auditioned by singing the George Michael and Elton John hit song “Don’t Let The Sun Go Down On Me.”
“This is Archie Williams,” Cowell captioned the clip. “I will never forget this audition for the rest of my life. And I’ll never listen to this song in the same way ever again.”

The video shows Williams telling host Terry Crews that he spent over three decades in prison for a crime he did not commit.
“I knew I was innocent, I didn’t commit a crime but being a poor black kid, I didn’t have the ability to fight the state of Louisiana,” Williams said.
He went on to say that he was convicted and sentenced to life without the possibility of parole despite the fact that there were no fingerprints at the scene of the crime and three people testifying that he was home at the time it took place.
“Freedom is of the mind, I went to prison but I never let my mind go to prison,” Williams said.
Williams was finally freed in March of 2019 thanks to DNA evidence and The Innocence Project, and he auditioned for “America’s Got Talent” just a few months later. The judging panel was brought to tears by his performance, and even the notoriously difficult to please Cowell admitted that he had a “really good voice.”
“I will never ever listen to the song in the same way after you,” Cowell said. “It took on a whole different meaning for me… this is an audition I would never forget for the rest of my life.”
Needless to say, Williams was unanimously voted through to the next round. We can’t wait to see what he brings to the competition in the months to come!
