Hollywood star Robert De Niro, an outspoken critic of President Donald Trump, spoke out this week to praise New York Governor Andrew Cuomo for the way he has handled the coronavirus pandemic.

De Niro claimed that Cuomo has acted “presidential” throughout this crisis despite the fact that the governor is in hot water over the revelation of 1,700 previously undisclosed nursing home deaths in New York due to coronavirus, according to Breitbart News. Early on in the outbreak, Cuomo had ordered senior care facilities in the state to accept COVID-19 patients, a move that has now clearly lead to hundreds of deaths among the elderly.

De Niro conveniently ignored all of this, however, as he praised the Democrat governor while talking to Stephen Colbert on “The Late Show.” During the interview, Colbert asked the Hollywood actor who he would play in the movie or television version of this pandemic

“I guess I’ll play Cuomo. He’s doing what a president should do,” De Niro said, to which Colbert asked, “Could you see ‘President’ Cuomo?”

“Yes I could see it,” De Niro responded. The liberal star went on to express his support for presumptive Democratic presidential nominee Joe Biden, although he added that Cuomo is a “very capable back up.”

“I want everything to go well for Biden. At least we have a person who is very capable backup, if  you will,” De Niro said. “Not vice president. But if something would change, God forbid nothing will change. He’s doing a great job. He’s doing what any president should do.”

Later on in the conversation, De Niro had his typical anti-Trump meltdown, calling him an “idiot” for his handling of COVID-19. “We of course could have survived this much better if, uh, ‘idiot’ had done the right thing, and listened and heeded all the warnings,” the actor said. “There were many, many warnings. And we’re all paying for it now. It would have been bad in some ways but never like this. It’s appalling. It’s appalling.”

Of course, the notoriously liberal Colbert was in full agreement with him. “It’s all about him getting re-elected,” De Niro said. “I have no words for it anymore. I’m completely nonplussed, dumbfounded, confounded.”

De Niro will forgive liberals like Cuomo of absolutely everything, while blaming anything bad that happens to our country on President Trump. Like his fellow radically leftwing stars, De Niro thinks success in the entertainment industry makes him an expert on politics, but he’s dead wrong.
