Senator Rand Paul shared a link to a chart showing the coronavirus death rate is similar to the seasonal flu for people under 60, complete with the caption: “Paging Dr. Fauci.”

The chart comes from an article posted in the Conservative Review, written by Senior Editor Daniel Horowitz, in which numbers are presented from a Dutch economics magazine.

It includes percentages of mild or asymptomatic patients, which are all well over 90 percent, along with the hospitalization and mortality rates.

“You have to get to the 50-59 age group just to reach a 0.1% fatality rate, the level often cited as the overall death rate for the seasonal flu,” Horowitz writes.

Americans Need to Know This

As Horowitz points out, Americans are being told to shut down their lives under the notion that their child might get the virus. He also notes that the death rate doesn’t expand greatly until a certain age.

“How many Americans even know that children have near-zero threat and anyone under 60 has next to no risk of dying from the virus?” he writes. “Even those between 60 and 69 are at much lower risk than anything the government has suggested and that the level of panic indicates.”

Paul is using this information to remind Dr. Fauci of just why blanket lockdowns are “kind of ridiculous.”

The Kentucky Senator made those very comments during the questioning and testimony of Fauci, a lead figure on the White House coronavirus task force, last week.

Not the End-All

Paul, during Fauci’s testimony, also explained that “the virus has caused very low mortality [and] that many Covid-19 forecasts have proven to be wrong.”

“As much as I respect you, Dr. Fauci, I don’t think you’re the end-all,” Paul continued. “I don’t think you’re the one person that gets to make the decision. We can listen to your advice, but there are people on the other side saying there’s not going to be a surge.”

Fauci has countered that it’s not his intent or job to limit activities of Americans but rather, to warn of deaths from COVID-19.

And yet, he has advised against opening up schools saying, “I think we better be careful if we are not cavalier in thinking that children are completely immune to the deleterious effects.”

“I think that one-size-fits-all, that we’re gonna have a national strategy and nobody’s gonna go to school, is kind of ridiculous,” Pual has countered. “We really ought to be doing it school district by school district …”

The chart shared by the congressman shows that a vast majority of Americans are relatively unaffected by the coronavirus pandemic, at least only to similar levels of that seen in the seasonal flu.

Hopefully, Fauci will see his message.
