Minneapolis was a virtual war zone Thursday night, as police battled arsonist thugs who set fire to the city’s Third Police Precinct. Looters roamed at will, the governor and the president called in the National Guard and contemplated sending in federal troops, and radical left wing Democrat Mayor Jacob Frey let the violent bands of protesters have their way with his city as he stood idly by indulging in prog platitudes.

The president tweeted on the situation, “I can’t stand back & watch this happen to a great American City, Minneapolis. A total lack of leadership. Either the very weak Radical Left Mayor, Jacob Frey, get his act together and bring the City under control, or I will send in the National Guard & get the job done right…These THUGS are dishonoring the memory of George Floyd, and I won’t let this happen. Just spoke to Governor Tim Walz and told him that the Military is with him all the way. Any difficulty and we will assume control but, when the looting starts, the shooting starts. Thank you.”

The White House press office added, “It was ‘egregious, appalling and tragic,’ said Press Secretary Kayleigh McEnany. ‘He (the president) wants justice to be served.’ She said that the video of the death of George Floyd prompted Trump to ‘pick up the phone’ while aboard Air Force One and ask the FBI to expedite its investigation.”

Meanwhile, left wing chickens have come home to roost in Minneapolis, as people who have been told for decades they were victims of an inherent racism in the American justice system took elected officials like the radical prog mayor of Minneapolis at his word and began to lay waste to his city.

As he pontificated from the safety of city hall, the mayor’s frenzied babbling of cliches and pieties did nothing to stop the mob. As his own police officers were under seige in the Third Precinct he abandoned them, and the system they represent and must adhere to, to the violence of armed looters engulfing Minneapolis.

“The symbolism of the building cannot outweigh the importance of life, our officers or the public,” said Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey. “We could not risk serious injury to anyone. And we will continue to patrol the Third Precinct.” He said this to weakly explain his decision to let mobs of thugs overrun a city police precinct. His opinion of the president’s legitimate reaction?

Frey said Trump “knows nothing about the strength of Minneapolis. We are strong as hell. Is this a difficult time period? Yes. But you better be damn sure we are going to get through this.” Not quite. Strong municipal governments do not have their police precincts taken over and set on fire by capering hordes of criminals.

Neighboring St. Paul Mayor Melvin Carter tweeted, “Please stay home. Please do not come here to protest. Please keep the focus on George Floyd, on advancing our movement and on preventing this from ever happening again.” It is a mild comfort to know there is someone in that area with at least an inch of sense and responsibility.
