Florida teacher begs judge to have him castrated after being found guilty of sexually assaulting students

In trying to get out of a prison sentence, Lua had also whined to the judge that he suffered from a genetic disorder that caused painful, tumorous growths on his skin.

A teacher from Florida who was found guilty of sexually assaulting his own young students just begged a federal judge to have him castrated instead of throwing him in jail.

Back in October, 32-year-old Mark Lua, an English teacher at Booker T. Washington High School in Pensacola, plead guilty to various sex-related charges against ex-students of his, including multiple charges of unlawful sexual activity with minors and promoting a sexual performance by a child. He was arrested three times last year alone, according to the Pensacola News Journal, and he has been accused of having sex with an underage student and sexually assaulting an 18-year-old former student. On top of that, Lua also coerced a student into filming an inappropriate video and then sending it to him.

Lua appeared in court on Wednesday for sentencing, and he proceeded to beg Judge Thomas Dannheisser to chemically castrate him instead of send him to prison, so that he could be free to raise his daughter.

“My actions were despicable to say the least. I do believe that punishment is necessary, and I am requesting chemical castration not only as a punishment but as an act of solidarity to show how sorry I am for everything,” Lua said. “If your honor is so inclined, I am even willing to undergo physical castration…that way I can stay home and raise my daughter.”

Assistant State Attorney Erin Ambrose had told the judge in response that Lua was targeting vulnerable young girls. “He seemed to seek out girls that came from unstable or troubled homes,” she said. “He manipulated them, and he betrayed them because he was a teacher.”

The judge was having none of Lua’s request, however, and promptly sentenced the ex-teacher to 12 years in state prison followed by 15 years of probation. The Florida state attorney’s office explained that while castration is a lawful punishment in the state, Lua’s crimes did not qualify for it.

“In this case, Mark Lua did not qualify for physical or chemical castration because of the nature of the charges,” State Attorney Bill Eddins said. “His charges were having sex with a minor, so it was not a sexual battery charge. So he did not qualify. Even if he had, we would have objected.”

In trying to get out of a prison sentence, Lua had also whined to the judge that he suffered from a genetic disorder that caused painful, tumorous growths on his skin. He also said that this disorder was causing him to suffer from debilitating panic attacks at the time of his crime. The judge also was not having any of this, telling Lua, “This condition did not seem to debilitate him while he was trolling the halls, looking for students to have sex with.”
