Democrat Rep. Eric Swalwell learns hard truth: What you wish for may blow up in your face

Congressman Eric Swalwell gets what he wished for, and it makes him look foolish.

Rep. Eric Swalwell (D-CA) really stepped in it big time when he decided it’d be a good idea to go after the now-former Acting Intel Chief Richard Grenell, accusing him and the new Intel boss John Ratcliffe of “protecting” the president.

What prompted this attack?

I’ll walk you through it real quick: Richard Grenell had just declassified an email from former National Security Adviser Susan Rice, a electronic message sent to her about an Oval Office meeting with former President Barack Obama. That email had all the fixings of nefarious activity and plotting to entrap Trump National Security Adviser General Michael Flynn, in their efforts to undermine President Trump. Obama administration officials including Rice and then-FBI Director James Comey et al. are implicated in the now-public corruption.

This is the basis for the sizzle between Richard Grenell and Eric Swalwell, the latter lodging his foot in his mouth.

Congressman Swalwell replied to a tweet from Daily Beast on the topic, saying he trusts FBI Director Christopher Wray (which some believe is reason enough to fire him). “They’re the ones with the shovels burying evidence to protect [Trump],” Swalwell said.

Do you think members of the 'resistance' within the government should lose their positions?

Grenell pounced. He reminded the lawmaker and failed 2020 presidential candidate that he was actually the one with a “history” of hiding information that didn’t suit his political agenda. Grenell ended the tweet with, “transparency is now a must.”

Here are Grenell’s exact words: “I’m letting the public see more info. You are the one who worked to hide the information you didn’t like. You listened to multiple people in classified hearings say they had no evidence and yet go on TV and say the opposite. Transparency is now a must!”

Swalwell, who should have quit while he was ahead, responded and slammed Grenell for not briefing the Intel Committee and then demanded he release Flynn’s call with the Russian ambassador. Then for extra propaganda and “drama effect,” Swalwell added the hashtag #ShowUsTheTape. That’s when, like a nuke, it all blew up in Swalwell’s face.

It was at that moment that Grenell decided to let everyone know that those tapes are indeed coming. Holy wow! Grenell insisted that the public has been misled for far too long. Here’s what he said: “Those are coming. It’s very important for the public to see ALL of them. For too long the public has been misled. Just compare your committee’s transcripts to your public statements!” Grenell tweeted.

Ouch. Well, Swalwell just learned to be careful what you wish for in real-time, and in front of everyone.
