California’s Democratic Governor Gavin Newsom was hit with bad news on Tuesday when a massive lawsuit was filed to stop him from handing out $75 million in taxpayer funds to illegal aliens.

The lawsuit was filed on Tuesday by conservative watchdog group Judicial Watch, which announced that they had also filed a temporary restraining order against Newsom to stop him from spending the $75 million on people living in this country illegally. They argued that the restraining order was necessary because Newsom allegedly plans to start spending the money immediately.

“Judicial Watch’s taxpayer clients asked for a temporary restraining order because Governor Newsom plans to rush plainly illegal direct cash payments, using taxpayer dollars, to illegal aliens,” Judicial Watch President Tom Fitton said in a statement. “The governor has no legal authority on his own to spend state taxpayer money for cash payments to illegal aliens, and coronavirus doesn’t give him or any other politician a pass to violate the law.”

This comes one month after Newsom announced plans to distribute $125 million in coronavirus-related assistance funds to illegal aliens, according to Daily Caller. California taxpayers would have to foot the bill for $75 million of this, while another $50 million would be covered by philanthropic donations. The money is intended to help illegal aliens who don’t qualify for the stimulus package that Congress passed to help American citizens back in March.

Judicial Watch argued in their filing that Newsom is overstepping his authority in handing out the hard-earned tax dollars of Americans to illegal immigrants, citing the fact that the liberal governor launched the program without input from California’s state legislature.

“These benefits are not to be provided to U.S. citizens or legal aliens residing in the state, according to an April 17 fact sheet issued by the California Department of Social Services, the ‘Disaster Relief Assistance for Immigrants Fact Sheet,’ which reiterates that only unlawfully present aliens are eligible for direct assistance,” the watchdog group stated.

It should be noted that federal immigration law bans illegal aliens from being eligible to receive state or local public benefits. The only way a state government can provide benefits to illegal immigrants is through laws passed by the state legislature, which never happened in California.

What Newsom is doing in his state is unconscionable, as there is no reason why American tax dollars should be given to people in this country illegally. This is yet another example of Democrats prioritizing illegal aliens over hardworking American citizens, so we hope for the sake of the people of California that this lawsuit stops Newsom dead in his tracks.
