Yet another California city has declared itself to be a sanctuary city, but this one is not a sanctuary for illegal immigrants. Instead, this community is a “sanctuary city” from the strict lockdown orders of the state’s Democratic Governor Gavin Newsom, who many say has overstepped his authority with his response to the coronavirus pandemic.

The central California city of Atwater passed a resolution on Friday that directly defies Newsom’s mandatory lockdown order by allowing businesses, churches, and not-for-profit organizations to reopen, according to ABC30.

“Affirming the city’s commitment to fundamental constitutional rights and declaring the City of Atwater a sanctuary city for all businesses,” the resolution stated.

Though California is slowing inching their way towards reopening, the liberals who run the state are not moving nearly fast enough for the people who have been out of out of the job for two months and need to feed their families.

“This is America. You have the choice. It’s time for the government to stop dictating another month, another three months, six months,” Atwater Mayor Paul Creighton said. “When is it going to end? When everyone is bankrupt?”

This order means that local authorities will not be able to interfere with business that reopen in the city. However, it does not mean every business in the area will reopen. Businesses like bars and salons, which operate under a state-issued license, could lose these licenses if they defy the state by reopening.

“If you do have a state (business) license, that’s between you and the state of California,” Creighton said, according to the Associated Press

After months of not being able to work, Americans are sick and tired of having to follow the orders of overbearing Democratic governors like Newsom. If he doesn’t start changing his tunes and making moves to reopen his state faster, Newsom should expect more “sanctuary cities” like Atwater to start popping up all over California very soon.
