Former California governor and Terminator star Arnold Schwarzenegger just stepped up to give a virtual commencement speech to the graduating class of 2020, only to shamelessly use it to attack President Donald Trump.

Schwarzenegger appeared in a video in which he directly addressed seniors, ostensibly to soften the blow of in-person graduation ceremonies being cancelled due to the coronavirus pandemic. However, it quickly became clear that the former Kindergarten Cop star only agreed to give the speech so that he could take jabs at President Trump.

He began by reminding the seniors that it took a lot of work to get to where they are today, and it’s the hours that they put into work that they should be celebrating.

“You are celebrating that journey today. Not just a piece of paper that you hang on a wall,” Schwarzenegger said.

That’s when the speech went off the rails, as Schwarzenegger held up an honorary doctorate he received from Trump University, a failed venture of President Trump’s from back in 2004.

“This is nothing,” the actor said as he held up the degree. “I mean we all have these pieces of paper, but let’s be honest. This celebration, by the way, is not the end. Yes, it is the end of this particular chapter, but it is the beginning of your next climb. It is time to celebrate now, be in the moment, go all out, yes of course. But tomorrow, when this is all over, it’s time to start developing your vision and it’s time to start climbing toward your vision.”

It’s both sad and pathetic that Schwarzenegger would hijack a speech that was meant to comfort young people who are being robbed of the experience of graduation ceremonies to play his own political games.

Did it not occur to Schwarzenegger that many of the seniors he was addressing are Trump supporters themselves? He should have left his ridiculous political opinions out of this one, and made the speech about the students rather than himself. For a narcissist like Schwarzenegger, however, this proved to be impossible to do.
