Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (AOC) argued in a video that illegal immigrants deserve their “fair share” of the coronavirus stimulus funds.

AOC’s logic was that illegal immigrants, despite breaking the law to enter this country, still pay taxes, but many corporations that have been bailed out with the stimulus funds do not.

“So these folks, the folks that are working the farms to feed us, the people that are delivering our groceries and driving us from one place to another or doing our laundry and cleaning our clothes and our homes, these people pay taxes,” Ocasio-Cortez said in a video. “They pay for the very recovery funds that they are being cut out of on city, state or federal levels, and so we have to make sure they get their fair share and that they are included.”

“If these big corporations don’t pay taxes but they’re getting bailed out by the federal government, why are we cutting out undocumented people who are actually paying more taxes than these other folks?” she argued.

She backed the Californian program that had prioritized giving illegal immigrants assistance during the coronavirus pandemic, saying it was “leaps and bounds” better than the program in her home state of New York. “California is recognizing how critical undocumented workers have been in their economy and they are striving to pay it back,” she continued.

This isn’t the first time that AOC has made this argument and tried to give government money to illegal immigrants. “If you don’t believe undocumented workers should have access to relief during #COVID19, does that mean you’re willing [to] return the billions they pay in taxes each year?” Ocasio-Cortez wrote in a tweet in April. “Will you defund your schools? Or, in this moment, will we recognize that we should just take care of each other?”

This line of argument is, of course, ridiculous. Firstly, for an illegal immigrant to be able to pay taxes, they have to use a stolen social security number. If the original owner is still alive and active in the U.S., then it completely screws them over when it’s time to do their taxes. Secondly, given that they’re basically committing fraud already, there is absolutely no reason for them not to cheat the system and claim as much back as they can!

Perhaps Miss Ocasio-Cortez should focus more on helping out people who haven’t broken the law!
