Conservative activist Candace Owens told Glenn Beck on Thursday she is going to run for office soon. The 30-year-old black female Turning Point USA leader lives in Stanford, CT. She says she won’t reveal if she’s running for the House, Senate, or governor. Too late to run this year.

But looking at the data the smart bet is the House. She could run against Senator Richard Blumenthal (D-CT) who is up for reelection in 2022. He is leftist and has a bad reputation due to lying about serving in the Vietnam War. But he wins big. Thus the Senate would be a stretch for the young activist.

Owens could take on Democrat Governor Ned Lamont, who is consistently ranked as one of the most unpopular governors in the country. He is up in 2022. But Connecticut is a liberal state and voters prefer seasoned executives in the governor’s mansion. Youth doesn’t play well in that context. Given Lamont’s bad poll numbers this could be her target. Owens has criticized him as of late. But it’s still a reach.

My bet is that she’s running for Connecticut’s 4th congressional district. The Democrat incumbent there is Jim Himes, who won reelection by 61% in 2018. He’s been in office since 2009. Owens would have several strengths going into the race. She’ll need them as 61% is not a number to sneeze at.

Young audiences love her. She breaks the mold most people see in GOP candidates. She is very sharp on her feet, in debate, and on the issues. Connecticut is a land of guilty white liberals. Owens could use her gender and her race to guilt some of the liberals into voting for her, not to mention her likely greatly increased share of the black vote.

She’s tough as nails, she’s possibly the smartest young GOP activist in the nation, and she is no stranger to controversy or political battle. All that would make her a formidable candidate anywhere in the state. But, smart money is on the House.
