In defiance of President Trump, who at Monday’s briefing said his power was “total” in this regard, liberal west coast Democrat governors Monday formed a “Western Pact” to take the lead in reopening their states to business and normal living. Eastern state liberal Democrat governors took the same type of action earlier in the day. They likely coordinated their moves.
In echoes of the Nullification Crisis of 1832, California Governor Gavin Newsom, Oregon Governor Kate Brown and Washington Governor Jay Inslee announced that they would supplant the president’s power and decide themselves on any reopenings in their states. They are calling their regional association ‘The Western Pact.” Much like “The Warsaw Pact,” that name may go down in history as the socialist beginning of a larger issue.
From their statement, “We are announcing that California, Oregon and Washington have agreed to work together on a shared approach for reopening our economies – one that identifies clear indicators for communities to restart public life and business.
“Health outcomes and science – not politics – will guide these decisions. Modifications to our states’ stay at home orders must be made based off our understanding of the total health impacts of COVID-19, including: the direct impact of the disease on our communities; the health impact of measures introduced to control the spread in communities —particularly felt by those already experiencing social disadvantage prior to COVID-19;
“Mitigating the non-direct COVID-19 health impacts, particularly on disadvantaged communities...In the coming days the governors, their staff and health officials will continue conversations about this regional pact to recovery.”
Notice the wording on potential racial quotas. Even in public health matters Democrat race-hustling tendencies are not far from the surface.
They claim health, not politics, guide their decision. But the very act of trying to usurp federal authority on this issue is by nature political. These Democrats can see the president getting credit for his response to the virus and they don’t like it. This is a move to try and claim the majority of the credit, regardless of the effect on the nation.
