Trump wins battle of the Chinese campaign ads

President Trump has been getting great political mileage out of reminding people in ads what Joe Biden said after the president banned travel from China in late January. Biden then attacked with, “This is no time for Donald Trump’s record of hysteria and xenophobia – hysterical xenophobia – and fear mongering to lead the way instead of science.” Soon Biden was agreeing with Trump and choking on his own words. A similar fate awaits Democrats on the immigration suspension.

So to try and regain some initiative the Biden campaign recently released an ad criticizing the president’s virus response in regards to China. Biden tries to come off as tough against the Chinese. He’s laughable. But some Democrats like the ad.

The hard left of the party does not. They accuse Biden of being too harsh on China in some of the same terms they use against the president. This does not bode well for Democrat party unity in the fall. The Democrat hard left calls the Biden ad “racist” and “xenophobic.” Gee, where have we heard those terms before? How does it feel, eh Joe?

As such, Glenn Greenwald said that the Democrats who previously slammed Trump’s words towards China as “racist” are now spreading the same ideas.

“Trump’s response to COVID-19 has been inept and self-serving, but wow this (the Biden ad) is some xenophobic messaging…” said left wing pundit Walker Bragman. “Xenophobic” again. Snicker, snicker.

“It’s exhausting how people are praising a dog-whistling ad that leans on yellow peril narratives but I guess that’s what you have to do when your candidate has no intention of fixing the structural problems that got us into this mess to begin with,” Bolshie writer E. Alex Jung opined.

“Wow ⁦@JoeBiden⁩. Already trying to out-Trump Trump. This kind of fear mongering is causing violent attacks on Asian Americans. If you are trying to reform your past history of racist policymaking, like your 1994 crime bill, you had better do some homework. This ain’t it,” leftist lawyer Cecelia Wang said in a tweet. Annnnd “racist.” Liking it, huh Joe?

“This is a devastatingly racist Biden ad,” The Nation editor Christopher Shay said. Did I hear, “racist?” It’s doubly fun because The Nation is the most left wing media outlet in America. Quite a feat, when you consider the robust competition.

“Who had Joe Biden put this hateful xenophobic ad up? Joe needs to focus on getting Democrats and Independents excited, not courting hard-core racists. You won’t get them, Joe, and you’ll make the rest of us sick to our stomachs,” actress and prog dilettante Cynthia Nixon wrote. Oh look, “xenophobic” again.

Way to go Joe. That’s how to win over 45% of your own party.
