Tuesday morning President  Trump tweeted his plans for a massive jobs and infrastructure plan to help America recover from the virus.

“With interest rates for the United States being at ZERO, this is the time to do our decades long awaited Infrastructure Bill. It should be VERY BIG & BOLD, Two Trillion Dollars, and be focused solely on jobs and rebuilding the once great infrastructure of our Country! Phase 4.”

Trump has been calling for such a plan since he ran for president. The Democrats, knowing it means union jobs and eyeing Trump’s increased poll numbers and greater chances for reelection, are not unreceptive.

Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY) said, “I think the odds are we’ll need more legislation. First, we don’t know the extent of the crisis in terms of the magnitude, so that could rise. But there are going to be problems that we don’t realize now that we’re going to have to grapple with. So I think the odds are high there will be a COVID-4.”

Secretary of Treasury Steve Mnuchin likes the idea, “This is a very popular program with Republicans and Democrats, and the president likes it a lot…We will absolutely go back to Congress and ask for more money.”

It will be insane for Democrats to oppose this bill, though some will. It steals a page from the Democrat playbook and uses the crisis to achieve something the president has wanted all along, an infrastructure program to renovate the country’s roads, bridges, tunnels, and other structures that have gone without major repairs for decades.

Unions will put heavy pressure on Democrats to sign on and the American public, many who will have lost their jobs, will be eager for a plan that brings many jobs back to the economy.
