President Donald Trump retweeted a post from Fox Business host Maria Bartiromo suggesting former National Security Adviser General Michael Flynn would be “completely exonerated.”

Flynn pleaded guilty to lying to the FBI over contacts with Russia in late 2017, but his lawyers have recently claimed they have documents proving he was “set up.”

“Breaking News,” Bartiromo shared with her followers. “Sources tell me [Flynn] will be completely exonerated this week. It was a total fraud. A setup.” She promised there would be “more tomorrow [Monday].”

President Trump retweeted Bartiromo’s message Sunday evening, indicating he may lean toward believing General Flynn and his lawyer’s claims.

Big If True

General Flynn’s lawyers, Sidney Powell and Jesse Binnall, have claimed that the Justice Department turned over “stunning” evidence which proves that he was “set up and framed” by the FBI. They’ve asked a federal judge to consider the evidence in their request to withdraw Flynn’s guilty plea. “The government has deliberately suppressed this evidence from the inception of this prosecution—knowing there was no crime by Mr. Flynn,” the lawyers wrote.

Framed

President Trump also shared a tweet of an interview with Republican Congressman Devin Nunes (CA) in which he claimed the federal government had “framed” Michael Flynn. Nunes claimed there is “possibly exculpatory evidence” concealed by the federal government during the investigation into Flynn that had been submitted to the court on Friday. Evidence he believes will show Flynn was “framed.”

While these reports have yet to be verified or even released, President Trump’s inclination to share them strengthens the belief that he is under the impression Flynn is an innocent man who may have indeed been “framed.”

“I am strongly considering a Full Pardon!” the president tweeted in January. If this evidence of “framing” comes to fruition it may not be necessary. And somebody from the FBI’s prosecutorial team will need to face their own trial.
