Leftist mainstream media honcho Chuck Todd of NBC‘s Meet the Press is used to saying derogatory things about President Trump. It’s his stock and trade and that of the vast majority of his media colleagues. That he almost never gets anything right in analysis or reporting doesn’t seem to phase Todd and his cohorts, as facts and accuracy are not something they care much about.
But Thursday on the Hugh Hewitt Show Todd, clearly taking his meds, had actual sound words for fellow leftists House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer. They likely won’t listen. He told them to stop stalling and pass the bill authorizing financial assistance to small businesses under the Trump administration’s Paycheck Protection Act.
“Look, I think any side that is on the side that looks like they’re holding up money, I think, is bad politics…It looks like they’re holding up small business money…So I think that’s what the Democrats are calculating. I don’t know if (their plan) is coming to fruition, though.”
He went on: “I think that small business money issue is something that’s more front and center with the public than the issue of reimbursing the states. And so I think that on a perception marker here, sort of your short term politics, I think the Republicans have the upper hand.”
Todd concluded, “It’s really interesting here, and they each, I think at times, almost miscalculated, right?…And one of these things, so this is one of those where Schumer and Pelosi, I think, could basically give them this…”
He’s right. It’s not the GOP who will come out a loser in this when small businesses run out of money. It will be Pelosi, Schumer, and the Democrats. Todd gave logical political advice on perception and legislative timing. But the Democrats are too ensnared in an ideological trap of their own making to heed his counsel. And in November they will pay for it at the polls.
