Meghan Markle and Prince Harry officially stopped being senior members of the British royal family on Wednesday months after they announced their decision to step away and move to North America. Now, Meghan is reportedly planning to make her return to acting, but she’s determined to only do so on her terms.

An inside source told Daily Mail that Meghan, 38, only wants to work with A-list directors in the hopes that she will secure a breakout role that will finally get her taken seriously as an actress. She is reportedly worried that critics will be especially hard on her, so she wants to make sure that only the best of the best directors are attached to her projects.

The source said that Meghan has “been telling her agents that she wants Ava DuVernay involved, and that they need to find the right script.” While Meghan has already been flooded with offers, the insider said that “she thinks the majority of them are cheesy and beneath her.”

“Meghan is worried that she won’t be taken seriously as an actress,” the source said. “Meghan has made it clear to her team that she will only work with A-list directors, but she doesn’t understand that this doesn’t necessarily mean they want to work with her.”

“This could end up being a very lengthy and tedious process because Meghan wants to control every aspect of whatever project she ends up doing,” the source continued.

Meghan spent years trying to make it an actress prior to her marriage to Harry, and though she was eventually cast as a lead on the cable television show “Suits,” she was not able to find many other successes in the entertainment industry.

The source went on to say that Meghan and Harry may have to go overseas for their first high paying job together, as they “are getting lucrative offers from Japan.”

“One commercial could pay for their entire security team for the year,” the source explained. “Meghan likes the idea that only the creme de la creme of actors are offered this type of work. She knows they need the money and is not entirely opposed to the idea.”

The first project of Meghan’s Hollywood comeback, the Disneynature movie Elephants, premiered on Friday on Disney +. Meghan narrates the film, which tells the story of a family of elephants making a journey through Africa. Unfortunately for Meghan, however, both the movie and her narration were widely panned by critics.

Ed Potton of The Times of London wrote that the former “Suits” actress traded “pomp and circumstance for schmaltz and cheesiness.”

“The silken tones that Meghan employed on the legal series ‘Suits’ and which were often muzzled during her time as a full-time royal are now given free rein,” Potton wrote. “And yes, she certainly has an actor’s way with a phrase and a likeable sense of mischief. ‘Oh! Who did that?’ she coos in mock disgust when one of the elephant calves breaks wind. The sense of performance, though, often feels overegged. Even the underwhelming moment in which the elephants rip some bark off a tree is presented like the announcement of the winner for best picture.”
