Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-MN) received a hefty dose of backlash for doctoring a headline which originally included the phrase “illegal immigrants” so that it now calls them “American taxpayers.”

And we’re calling it “doctored” because had President Donald Trump done anything even vaguely similar, he would have been accused of the same exact thing. How many times has the president shared a humorous photo-shopped image only for the media to make it sound more nefarious by saying he “doctored” the photo?

You get the point. Here’s the stunt Omar pulled off…

On Wednesday, the New York Post ran an article noting how multiple members of the so-called “Squad,” including Omar, have been demanding that the next coronavirus relief package include cash payments for illegal immigrants. It is a move by far-left activists in the Democratic Party that we’ve covered extensively here at The Political Insider. “‘Squad’ members want to make illegal immigrants eligible for coronavirus aid,” the Post headline reads.

Omar shared a screenshot of the headline in which she doctored it so that instead of reading “illegal immigrants,” it now incorrectly read “American taxpayers.”

“There, fixed it for you,” she snidely captioned her version of the story. Some are taxpayers, yes, having tax IDs (ITINs), a number issued by the IRS to ensure that people –including unauthorized immigrants– pay taxes. Doing so doesn’t change the fact that they’re illegal. And it sure as hell doesn’t make them American.

Numerous followers on Twitter responded to Omar’s false assertion that paying taxes makes you an American. “If they’re illegal immigrants, by definition they’re not Americans,” one individual replied. Another scoffed, “That’s like calling drug dealers pharmacists.” Still, others decided to “doctor” their own headlines to make a mockery of Omar’s claim:

Omar and the Squad have been calling on Congress to make the next round of coronavirus relief packages for the American people available as cash payments to illegal aliens as well. “We need to center the humanity of every individual family and workers and that includes not leaving behind undocumented and uninsured,” said Squad-mate and Democrat Massachusetts Congresswoman Ayanna Pressley.

For her part, Omar has actually introduced a bill that would allow this money to be given to illegals. “Comprehensive legislation is needed in the next package to ensure that all noncitizens, whether holding a SSN or not, can access these relief payments,” she claimed. A Republican member of the House should counter that proposal with legislation that guarantees that money is only served to actual American taxpayers. That will fix this nonsense.
