Arnold Schwarzenegger makes $1 million move to fight coronavirus

He's showing the world that he doesn't just play superheroes onscreen: he does it in real life as well!

The Terminator himself, Arnold Schwarzenegger has just announced that he is making a $1 million donation in protection equipment to hospitals to help them deal with the coronavirus pandemic.

“Mission accomplished,” he said as he revealed his donation in a video posted to Facebook that showed the former California governor going down to make sure the shipment of supplies had arrived. Schwarzenegger can then be seen ripping open one of the boxes so that viewers can see that N95 masks really are inside.

This comes one week after Schwarzenegger announced that had donated $1 million to a GoFundMe page set up to benefit hospital workers.

“This is a simple way to protect our real action heroes on the frontlines in our hospitals, and I’m proud to be part of it,” he wrote on Instagram. “I never believed in sitting on the couch and complaining about how bad things are.”

Though Schwarzenegger has kept a relatively low profile in recent years, he has reemerged since the start of the coronavirus pandemic to urge people to follow the guidelines and practice social distancing. Last month, he shared a video of himself giving social distancing tips from his hot tub.

“Yeah I’ve been home, taking jacuzzis, smoking a stogy, I just finished a bike ride and a bit of a workout, I just keep staying at home, away from the crowds and away from outside,” he said. ‘The reason why I’m saying that is because I still see photographs and videos of people sitting at outside cafes all over the world and having a good time and hanging out in crowds. That is not wise, because that’s how you can get the virus. ‘That’s how you get it, [through] contact with other people.”

Schwarzenegger was referring to reports that young people were continuing to party together for spring break, despite orders not to.

“So stay away from crowds, stay away from restaurants, and outdoor cafes, especially now in springtime, when all the kids are going to the beach and celebrating and drinking,” the action movie star added. “This is not a good idea. So stay away from the crowds, go home, and then we can overcome this whole problem, this whole virus, in no time. You’ve got to go and follow those orders. Just remember – stay at home, don’t go to crowds.”

We applaud Schwarzenegger for using his platform to encourage others to socially distance, and for putting his money where his mouth is by using his fortune to help with relief efforts. He’s showing the world that he doesn’t just play superheroes onscreen: he does it in real life as well!
