Senator introduces bill demanding China pay for coronavirus costs

China undoubtedly engaged in a massive cover-up from the onset of the coronavirus outbreak.

Senator Josh Hawley of Missouri has introduced a resolution bill that would demand China pay for the damages they’ve caused other nations by lying about the coronavirus.

The Republican lawmaker is calling for an “international investigation” into the Chinese Communist Party to determine how extensive the cover-up has been.

“Since day one, the Chinese Communist Party intentionally lied to the world about the origin of this pandemic,” Hawley said in a statement. “The CCP was aware of the reality of the virus as early as December but ordered laboratories to destroy samples and forced doctors to keep silent.”

“It is time for an international investigation into the role their cover-up played in the spread of this devastating pandemic,” he continued. “The CCP must be held to account for what the world is now suffering.”

Senator Hawley also suggested China must “pay back all nations impacted because China lied about the spread of the virus.”

Rep. Elise Stefanik (R-NY) introduced a bicameral resolution in the House which states “China must, and will, be held accountable.”

“There is no doubt that China’s unconscionable decision to orchestrate an elaborate cover-up of the wide-ranging and deadly implications of coronavirus led to the death of thousands of people, including hundreds of Americans and climbing,” a statement from Stefanik reads.

“This Resolution calls for China to provide compensation for the harm, loss, and destruction their arrogance brought upon the rest of the world.”

The resolutions are similar in nature to calls issued by Rep. Jim Banks (R-IN), who last week said the United States should “demand reparations” from China for their role in creating an economic crisis due to the coronavirus.

China undoubtedly engaged in a massive cover-up from the onset of the coronavirus outbreak.

Chinese authorities prevented doctors from alerting the public, refused help from the World Health Organization, and kept the Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) out of the country.

Biden Sides With China?

While Hawley and Stefanik work feverishly to hold China accountable, Democrat presidential candidate Joe Biden has seemingly sided with the Chines Communist Party.

Just days ago, Biden campaign adviser Ron Klain praised China’s authoritarian government for its response to the coronavirus, heralding the fact that it “built hospitals in two or three days.”

When President Trump fought back against Chinese misinformation by accurately stating that the coronavirus originated in China, Biden sided with the communist nation by repeating their propaganda.

As the fallout from this crisis is likely to extend well past the election, there can be little doubt Biden would allow China to get away with what they’ve done, something Hawley believes simply can’t be allowed to happen. “The cost of Beijing’s criminal conduct should be assessed and they should pay damages to [the United States] and the world,” he wrote.
