New York Times demands more abortion access during coronavirus pandemic

This is ridiculous.

The New York Times Editorial board are using the coronavirus pandemic as an excuse to demand even more access to abortions.

“A Transparent Attempt to Put Abortion Out of Reach”

As the coronavirus outbreak grows, Texas, Ohio, and Louisana, have all restricted abortions in order to save medical supplies, such as PPE (personal protective equipment) to be used for coronavirus patients, along with other procedures that aren’t “immediately medically necessary.” This has, of course, infuriated the pro-choice lobby, including the New York Times Editorial Board.

The article, entitled, Make Abortion More Available During the Pandemic — Not Less,” argues that calling abortion “non-essential” is “obvious nonsense and the delay a transparent attempt to put abortion out of reach for those who need it… These state leaders know that once an abortion clinic closes for any significant period, it becomes difficult to reopen.”

The article refers to a joint statement from the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists and other medical groups, arguing that abortion is “an essential component” of healthcare.

“It is also a time-sensitive service for which a delay of several weeks, or in some cases days, may increase the risks or potentially make it completely inaccessible,” the statement reads, adding that “the consequences of being unable to obtain an abortion profoundly impact a person’s life, health and well-being.”

New York Times Argues for Radical “Solutions”

The New York Times Editorial Board’s solution to this “problem” is to push for a number of radical plans to expand abortion access. Firstly, they argue that the FDA should relax the regulation on mifepristone, a drug used in medical abortion.

“Doing so would allow many women to get a prescription for abortion-inducing drugs from a doctor via telemedicine, at which point the medications could be mailed to the patient,” they argue, noting that the 18 states that currently ban telemedicine should also lift those restrictions.

After advocating for “birth control for all,” somehow claiming that America has been moving “in the opposite direction” from that, the NYT board concludes by demanding the end to the Hyde Amendment, which prevents taxpayer-funded abortions.

“It’s long past time to end America’s bans on government funding for abortions,” the editorial argues. “These bans mean that poor women already struggle to afford reproductive health care — an issue that’s sure to be exacerbated during the coronavirus crisis and the economic fallout from it,” it continues, concluding that “with so much about the future uncertain for countless Americans, it’s more important than ever that everyone has control over their reproductive choices, at least.”

Their Solutions Will Not Be Temporary, But Permanent!

We all know what’s happening here. This isn’t some temporary push to help relieve some “problems” that evil white men have opportunistically created. Quite the opposite. The temporary abortion restrictions occurred at the same time as other medical procedures being shut down, and there is no way they won’t be reinstated at the same time. However, what the New York Times Editorial Board pushes for are a number of regulatory and legislatory changes regarding abortion that will be far harder to roll back. Once you open the flood gates to taxpayer-funded abortions, you can’t close it.

The language in the last paragraph is abundantly clear. This is what leftists have been pushing for forever, and are jumping on this crisis to make their agenda happen. The same is happening with all the pork and regulations that Pelosi and Schumer pushed for in the coronavirus relief bill. The Democrat House Whip James Clyburn even boasted that the crisis is “a tremendous opportunity to restrict things to fit our vision!” This editorial article is simply projection, where the liberals accuse those on the right of doing exactly what it is they’re actually doing, and I can see right through it.
