States and cities all over the U.S. have been on lockdown for days now because of the coronavirus pandemic. While most people are complying with orders to stay home and self-isolate, some people are still breaking quarantine to go about their normal business.

Now, however, a news story is going viral that is sure to have people thinking twice before they break quarantine again.

The government in Rwanda imposted a “total lockdown” on the country on Sunday as the number of COVID-19 cases in the African nation continued to rise, according to the BBC. Rwanda, which is a nation of twelve million people, already has forty confirmed cases of coronavirus, the highest in the region.

Rwanda is in a crisis over coronavirus, as their economy has effectively shut down, which has had a drastic impact on the nation’s workers, most of whom are low-income earners. Despite this, one man decided to break the Rwandan quarantine yesterday to go fishing in the Nyabarongo River.

This move turned out to be a huge mistake, as it backfired on him in a big way when he was then killed and eaten by a crocodile.

The man’s death was confirmed by Alice Kayitesi, the mayor of the district where he died.

“He had broken the stay-home rule, he’s among very few people here who are not co-operating with the lockdown to stop the [corona]virus,” she said.

While this is obviously an extreme case, it serves as a reminder to all of us about the importance of staying in quarantine at this time. At the end of the day, it simply is not worth it to disobey government lockdown guidelines and go out in public right now.

The sooner all of us hunker down and stay inside, the sooner this nightmare will be over and we can go back to normal life.
