Failed 2016 presidential candidate Hillary Clinton has found herself in hot water this week after she made an offensive joke about reports that the U.S. is leading in the number of coronavirus cases in the world.

It was reported on Thursday that the United States has outpaced China and Italy with 97,000 reported cases of coronavirus, according to Fox News. On Friday afternoon, Clinton gleefully shared an article about this and tried to use it to attack President Donald Trump, the man who destroyed her own presidential dreams.

“He did promise ‘America First,'” Clinton tweeted, referring to a campaign slogan that Trump often used against her in 2016.

Unfortunately for Clinton, this tweet backfired on her when social media users fired back at her by letting her know that she had crossed the line.

“Delete your account. This isn’t the time. This can’t be the new normal, where American tragedy is applauded for the sake of political opportunism,” tweeted Rep. Dan Crenshaw, R-Texas.

“This sort of vicious celebratory tone about Americans getting sick & dying during a deadly global pandemic is just appalling,” wrote Washington Examiner reporter Jerry Dunleavy.

National Republican Senatorial Committee senior advisor Matt Whitlock added, “Hillary Clinton touting figures that are a result of Chinese disinformation to dunk on America and sick Americans is a pretty good reminder why she lost in 2016.”

Conservative commentator Mark Dice took the time to explain to Clinton why exactly the number of cases have gone up.

“That’s because we’re testing a lot more people since tens of thousands with mild to no symptoms are rushing to the hospital because they’re coming down with a case of paranoia from watching too much ‘news,'” Dice tweeted.

Many others piled on to Clinton as well:

Despite the backlash, Clinton stood by the tweet in a statement released by her spokesman Nick Merrill.

“The situation we find ourselves in was demonstrably avoidable, and pointing that out with a reference to the President’s empty rhetoric is nothing more than another way of pleading for him to lead,” he said.

It’s despicable that Clinton seems to be taking pleasure over America’s suffering simply because it is happening under President Trump’s watch. This just goes to show that Clinton never loved America to begin with, and that she only care about herself.
