United Kingdom Prime Minister Boris Johnson announced early Friday that he had tested positive for the coronavirus.
According to an official UK spokesman, Johnson was tested on the advice of Britain’s Chief Medical Officer Chris Whitty.
The prime minister will self quarantine at 10 Downing St and receive care.
He assured the populous that he would remain in control and manage the country from his residence. It has not been stated whether the prime minister will stay with fiance Carrie Symonds, who is pregnant.
This news comes as cases in the UK steadily rise and on the heels of a decision by Johnson to enter into a three-week national lockdown.
Over the last 24 hours I have developed mild symptoms and tested positive for coronavirus.
I am now self-isolating, but I will continue to lead the government’s response via video-conference as we fight this virus.
Together we will beat this. #StayHomeSaveLives pic.twitter.com/9Te6aFP0Ri
