When faced with a crisis like this one, there is no better way to get through it than leaning on the American flag.

As the coronavirus pandemic continues, an increasing number of Americans are turning to patriotism to get through this difficult time.

During a press conference on Friday, Ohio Gov. Mike DeWine (R) called on the people of his state to rally behind the American flag throughout this pandemic. “We’ve been attacked by this virus. We have to pull together,” said DeWine, according to WOWK. “Fly that flag every single day.”

He went on to tell the story of a seven-year-old girl whose mother emailed the governor’s office to say, “Mr. DeWine, we do not have an American flag to hang outside our home. Today after your news conference, my 7-year-old daughter made this flag for our house in honor of your request.”

“I would like to thank 7-year-old Elaina in Radnor, Ohio for the beautiful flag,” DeWine told reporters.

In the wake of DeWine’s press conference, Cleveland.com reported that there have been “lots of flags” put up throughout Northeast Ohio, and Americans in other states have followed suit as well. Joe Riccio, 70, of Buffalo, New York has been planting small flags in front of every house in his neighborhood.

“I was just trying to show that we’re unified, we’re all in this together,” Riccio told The Buffalo News.

Meanwhile, Boy Scouts in Hamilton, Michigan have been putting up American flags outside local small businesses.

“You turn on the TV and people are talking about staying home, things shutting down, people are getting nervous,” scout master David Nevins told Fox 17. “There’s a lot of uncertainty and I think this is a way to make people feel better.”

Unfortunately, not everyone has been rallying behind the flag right now, as radical liberals have still been bashing patriotism throughout this outbreak.

“The United States of America is a weak country,” Slate contributor David Masciotra wrote. “All the flag-waving, patriotic speeches and obtuse declarations of superiority have long seemed overly conspicuous—and history has no sympathy for the delusional. It continually exposes the vulnerability, fragility and inanity of a nation that has the wealth, resources and human intelligence to cultivate a magnificent civilization, but repeatedly sacrifices the common interest and public good on the altar of avarice.”

Liberals like Masciotra get pleasure out of tearing down the American flag, and though the voices of these radical leftists are loud, it’s important to remember that there is a silent majority in this country that still has nothing but love, respect, and admiration for the American flag. After the 9/11 terrorist attacks, it was patriotism that brought Americans together and got us through that horrific time. When faced with a crisis like this one, there is no better way to get through it than leaning on the American flag.
