House Republicans on the House Intelligence Committee spoke out today to blast Chairman Adam Schiff (D-Calif.) for refusing to hold a hearing on the FBI’s FISA abuses that were recounted in a Department Of Justice inspector general’s report.

They made these comments while revealing that they would be boycotting a subcommittee hearing that was scheduled to take place today.

“Under your chairmanship, the House Intelligence Committee has strayed far from its mandate of overseeing the Intelligence Community,” the nine Republicans on the committee wrote to Democrats in a letter obtained by The Daily Caller. “In fact, we have gone months at a time in which we’ve hardly held any oversight-related briefings or hearings at all.”

The Republicans went on to state that they would not be attending today’s hearing for the Strategic Technology and Advanced Research Subcommittee.

“Until the Committee prioritizes oversight activities related to urgent and critical concerns, Republican Members cannot support distractions from our core responsibilities,” they wrote to Schiff.

In explaining their reasoning behind their letter, Republicans cited the December 9th Justice Department inspector general’s (IG) report, which illuminated various ways the FBI failed in its investigation of the Trump campaign. They also described today’s hearing, which is meant to be on the “development of artificial intelligence for the purposes of national security of the U.S. and allied countries,” as nothing more than a “publicity event.”

The Republicans explained that many other committees could hold hearings on this issue, but the House Intelligence Committee has more important things to do.

“There are numerous Committees in the House of Representatives that may conduct public hearings on emerging science and technology matters; the House Intelligence Committee should focus on critical issues we are uniquely postured to address,” they explained.

We’re glad to see House Republicans on Schiff’s own committee fighting back against him in such a big way. In his desperation to take down Trump, Schiff has been abusing his power for far too long, and he should not be allowed to get away with it any longer.
