An official with the Department of Justice has confirmed that a new investigation has been launched into multiple former top FBI officials, including James Comey, Andrew McCabe, and Peter Strzok.
Andrew Weissmann, a former top lawyer in the DOJ who played a major role in Robert Mueller’s investigation, told MSNBC host Chuck Todd on Friday that the Justice Department has launched a new investigation into Comey, McCabe, and Strzok. He explained that the new case replaced the “loser case” against McCabe, in which the DOJ decided not to pursue charges against McCabe for lying to investigators.
“All they did was swapped out a loser case for starting an investigation that is going to be of Comey, McCabe, Pete Strzok,” Weissmann said, according to The Washington Examiner .
All three of these officials played some kind of role in the investigation into President Donald Trump’s alleged collusion with Russia during the 2016 presidential election. The investigation ended with no evidence of collusion being found, much to the dismay of Democrats.
The new investigation is being led by Jeffrey Jensen, the U.S. attorney for the Eastern District of Missouri, who was picked by Attorney General William Barr. Weissman, who is now a legal analyst for NBC News, described the appointment of Jensen as “interesting” given the fact that the judge who presided over the case against retired Lt. Gen. Michael Flynn had shot down claims that Flynn was set up by the FBI after going over the facts of the investigation.
Three years ago, Flynn pled guilty to lying to investigators about discussions he’d had with Russian Ambassador Sergey Kislyak about U.S. sanctions on the nation.
“What I would love to know is what the factual predicate, given that Judge Sullivan has found nothing there,” Weissman said.
Comey, McCabe, and Strzok have all shown time and time again that they are as crooked as they come. We’re glad to see that the Department of Justice will be looking into them once again with this new investigation.
