Democratic presidential candidate Michael Bloomberg has come under fire for past comments he made once again, this time for remarks he made less than a year ago about transgender people.
The former New York City mayor made the controversial comments in March of 2019 at a forum hosted by the Bermuda Business Development Agency, where he slammed Democrats for focusing on social issues like transgenderism as a strategy in elections.
“If your conversation during a presidential election is about some guy wearing a dress and whether he, she, or it can go to the locker room with their daughter, that’s not a winning formula for most people,” Bloomberg said in a newly-surfaced video from the event. “They care about health care, they care about education, they care about safety and all of those kinds of things.”
“And some of these social issues, that — and it’s not just the American government; the E.U. government does it as well — we’re focusing on a lot of things that have little relevance to people who are trying to live in a world that is changing because of technology and communications and things like that,” Bloomberg added.
He later said that Democrats’ obsession with social politics is part of what led to Donald Trump being elected in 2016.
“You can understand if you take a look at the Democratic Party; they are so far left that, two years ago, there was nobody on their side that would take these positions, and, today, virtually all the candidates for president of the Democratic Party have been so ‘progressive,'” Bloomberg said. “I don’t know what ‘progressive’ means.”
The Bloomberg campaign fired back with a brief statement to BuzzFeed News:
“Mike understands that the transgender community has been under attack for decades and the advance of rights has not been equal. … Mike is running to defeat Donald Trump and reverse the many policies he has implemented that attack the rights of the transgender community.”
Unsurprisingly, Bloomberg’s past comments were blasted online by liberals who found themselves “triggered” by his words.

Calling a trans person “it,” in public or private, is dehumanizing and completely unacceptable. https://t.co/eKPTt9LHl2

This video is not the only time Bloomberg made comments about transgenderism that liberals found to be offensive, as he made similar comments in 2016 during an event in the United Kingdom.
“If you want to know if somebody is a good salesman, give him the job of going to the Midwest and picking a town and selling to that town the concept that some man wearing a dress should be in a locker room with their daughter,” Bloomberg said at the time, according to NBC News. “If you can sell that, you can sell anything. They just look at you and they say, ‘What on Earth are you talking about?'”
Bloomberg actually has a great point in arguing that the left has gone way too far when it comes to social issues. Modern Democrats obsess over issues like transgenderism, which only impacts a minuscule number of the population, and ignore broader issues that affect the masses. Of course this negatively affects Democrats in election because American voters would rather support someone who is going to take seriously the issues that actually impact their own lives, rather than someone worrying about whether a very small group of people can use the locker rooms of their choice.
However, now that Bloomberg is running for president as a Democrat, he is learning the hard way that it is the far-lefties who have taken over the party. They are the loudest voices in every room of liberals, and they have the power to make or break any Democratic candidate.
Bloomberg may have common senses on his side when it comes to his above comments about transgenderism, but that doesn’t matter at all to liberal snowflakes. In the end, this video might be the nail in the coffin when it comes to his 2020 campaign.
