Former President Barack Obama sent a cease and desist letter to South Carolina television stations over an anti-Biden ad he says is misleading.

The ad, created by the pro-Trump super PAC, Committee to Defend the President, makes use of audio clips and quotes from Obama’s famous memoir, “Dreams from My Father.”

The clips are interspersed with textual criticisms of Biden’s record. Using old or unrelated quotes to make an updated point is a tactic in political ads as old as time itself.

Obama, however, is crying foul in this case.

The quotes, an Obama spokeswoman suggests, are used in a “misleading way.”

What’s the Problem?

Let’s take a look at Obama’s argument.

“This despicable ad is straight out of the Republican disinformation playbook, and it’s clearly designed to suppress turnout among minority voters in South Carolina by taking President Obama’s voice out of context and twisting his words to mislead viewers,” an Obama spokeswoman said in a statement.

Of course, of course. The ad is racist. Who saw that one coming?

“In the interest of truth in advertising, we are calling on TV stations to take this ad down and stop playing into the hands of bad actors who seek to sow division and confusion among the electorate,” she concluded.

“Bad actors seeking to sow division” essentially sums up Obama’s entire two terms in office.

And if we were honestly interested in truth in advertising there would be zero political ads played on television stations. Ever.

Obama Finally Stepping In to Help Biden?

Political pundits have been wondering for some time if Obama was finally going to step into the 2020 campaign and try to rescue the Democrats.

Could this be his first effort?

And is it an attempt to help Biden or finally stop Bernie Sanders who, should he continue his momentum in South Carolina and into Super Tuesday, will run away with the nomination?

A report last month indicated Obama feared the Marxist/Communist/Socialist Sanders’ rise in the polls and that he may step in and stop him.

“Obama has told people in private that Sanders is both temperamentally and politically unfit to beat Trump in the 2020 general election, these people say,” Fox Business reported.

Biden could use any assist at this point. Establishment Democrats feel a Biden victory in South Carolina is an absolute must for them to have any chance of nominating somebody who has a shot to defeat President Trump.
