Republican lawmaker Bradley Byrne introduced a resolution seeking to censure House Speaker Nancy Pelosi for withholding articles of impeachment from the Senate.

Pelosi has engaged in her own quid pro quo by withholding the articles while demanding Republicans in the Senate conduct the trial phase according to her expectations.

Byrne said her actions amount to an abuse of power.

“Speaker Pelosi’s decision to hold the articles of impeachment against President Trump in a pathetic and unconstitutional attempt to extract concessions from the Senate is an unprecedented abuse of power,” Byrne (R-AL) correctly summarized in a statement.

Imagine if Pelosi were censured for obstruction of Congress, the same thing President Trump is going to be acquitted for in the Senate. Oh, the irony!

 

Abuse of Power

Byrne’s assertion that Pelosi has abused her power is buoyed by liberal Harvard law professor Alan Dershowitz who used the same description.

In discussing Pelosi’s withholding of the articles with Fox News personality Sean Hannity, Dershowitz accused her of obstructing Congress.

“This is obstruction of the Senate, the exact same charge that was made against the president,” he charged. “This is abuse of power from exactly the same charge they made against the president.”

Byrne argued that Pelosi must be held accountable.

“The leader of this attempt to throw out constitutional norms to remove our president must be held accountable,” he told Breitbart News.

Well now, that’s just silly. We all know Democrats are never held accountable for their actions.

 

Even Democrats Are Getting Fed Up

Some of Pelosi’s Democrat colleagues are starting to distance themselves from Pelosi’s attempts to obstruct the Senate.

The Washington Post’s Seung Min Kim reports that Pelosi “doesn’t have a lot of leverage here and I think the fact that she’s losing members of her own party in the Senate … these Senators come from the most liberal flank of the caucus to the most moderate who are all saying, ‘Let’s get this thing going. We have a job to do. Let’s get this trial moving and get it over with.'”

Even California Democrat Senator Dianne Feinstein is getting irked with House Democrats.

“The longer it goes on the less urgent it becomes. So if it’s serious and urgent, send them over. If it isn’t, don’t send it over,” she said.

And if they don’t, go ahead and vote on the censure resolution.

It won’t be passed in the Democrat-controlled House, but if just one member of the party votes in favor it would officially be more of a bipartisan effort than the impeachment process itself.
