President Trump’s legal team filed a 110-page trial memo on Monday morning that lays out much of the substance of their planned defense of the president in front of the U.S. Senate.

The trial starts tomorrow.

They wrote of the Dem campaign for impeachment, “Instead, House Democrats were determined from the outset to find some way – any way – to corrupt the extraordinary power of impeachment for use as a political tool to overturn the result of the 2016 election and to interfere in the 2020 election.”

They continued to say, “All of that is a dangerous perversion of the Constitution that the Senate should swiftly and roundly condemn.”

On procedure: “The Senate cannot expand the scope of a trial to consider mere assertions appearing in House reports that the House did not include in the articles of impeachment submitted to a vote.”

And to conclude: “After focus-group testing various charges for weeks, House Democrats settled on two flimsy Articles of Impeachment that allege no crime or violation of law whatsoever—much less ‘high Crimes and Misdemeanors,’ as required by the Constitution.”

The Dems, using the tired arguments that the nation has heard in various forms for over three years, countered with, “[The] Constitution provides a remedy when the President commits such serious abuses of his office: impeachment and removal …”

The lengthy memo went on to describe, “The Senate must use that remedy now to safeguard the 2020 U.S. election, protect our constitutional form of government, and eliminate the threat that the President poses to America’s national security.”

The Dem prosecution claims the president’s actions, “were consistent with his prior solicitation and encouragement of Russia’s interference in the 2016 election” and “consistent with his previous efforts to obstruct investigations into foreign interference in U.S. elections.”

Amazing that they are not laughed off the floor of the Senate.

Also outrageously ironic is the Dem’s new concern for national security.

Since at least the administration of FDR, Dems have done much to undermine U.S. national security, sometimes, as in the case of Alger Hiss, as covert Soviet agents.

Sometimes, as in the case of Reps Rashida Tlaib and Ilhan Omar, as overt Islamist agents of influence and possibly more.

But then, they will do or say anything to advance their twisted collectivist authoritarian political agenda.

This trial is just one more attempt in that decades-long campaign.
