That fount of shining political analysis and historical wisdom, the granted, telegenic, Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, Dem of New York, said on Monday that she belongs to, and her fellow Dems comprise, “a center or center-conservative” party.

She followed that up with, “We don’t have a left party in the United States. The Democratic Party is not a left party.” She said this at an MLK Day event in New York City.

She expounded, “We can’t even get a floor vote on Medicare-for-all — not even a floor voted that gets voted down. We can’t even get a vote on it. So this is not a left party.

There are left members inside the Democratic Party that are working to try to make that shift happen.”

A tweet on the subject.

To an authoritarian socialist, the kind that ran the Soviet Union for about 75 years, she is no doubt spot on.

But to the rest of us who don’t politically orbit Neptune or who do not get our economic ideals from a disgraced and disproved 19th-century German curmudgeon, her statement is more than a bit odd.

AOC calls the shots for a large part of the House Dem caucus and often holds House Speaker Nancy Pelosi hostage to her whims—responsible to no one but the socialist gaggle of thugs on the far left.

She makes common cause with terrorists and the enemies of this nation and is so out of touch with America and the political principles of the American people that she thinks that nostrums like racial quotas, socialized medicine, and unilateral disarmament are somehow “center-conservative.”

That’s how far left she and her party have become.

Some Dems understand that the U.S. is a center-right nation that will on occasion move to the center-left if the political winds are blowing that way.

The election of Bill Clinton in 1992 after 12 years of GOP rule and the election of Barack Obama in 2008 prove that well enough.

Thus, smart Dems want a big tent party so they can elect more Dems to office. The reason the Dems hold the House now is because they elected many moderates in the 2018 midterm elections.

But AOC wants a smaller more ideologically pure party made up of socialist true believers of the Che Guevara ilk.

We commend her on her ideal and mission. It can only help the GOP.
