‘When We Give Our Heart and Our Trouble to God, We Flourish’

The desire to live independently from God was the original sin in the Garden of Eden.

This insane drive within our sinful nature boldly manifests itself when we try to solve problems by our own strength — instead of trusting in God’s.

This doesn’t mean when we have problems, we do nothing.

But it also doesn’t mean we live in frenzied worry, frantically trying to solve our problems on our own.

God doesn’t need our help with our problems; but He needs our heart if we want Him to show us how to solve them.

Otherwise we’re simply running out of the Garden — just as Adam and Eve did.

When we worry, it’s a good indication we are trying from our own strength instead of trusting in His.

This is a serious sin.

God minced no words about it.

The Bible says: “Cursed is the man who trusts in man and makes flesh his strength, whose heart turns away from the Lord. He is like a shrub in the desert, and shall not see any good come. He shall dwell in the parched places of the wilderness, in an uninhabited salt land” (Jeremiah 17:5-6).

Do you want to live cursed?

I can’t say that I’ve ever considered I might be “cursed” for trusting in myself.

But trusting myself means I turn away from the living water of God — and live like a withered shrub in the desert.

The contrast in trusting God and trying without Him is remarkable.

The fruitful tree or the shriveled shrub — which will we be?

The Bible says: “Blessed is the man who trusts in the Lord, whose trust is the Lord. He is like a tree planted by water, that sends out its roots by the stream, and does not fear when heat comes, for its leaves remain green, and is not anxious in the year of drought, for it does not cease to bear fruit” (Jeremiah 17‬:7-8‬).

When we give our heart and our trouble to God, we flourish.

When we go through life without trusting God — we make our life harder than it should be.
