Love draws people into its warm circle; and when we love like God does, our life draws people to God.

We are created with the capacity to love as God loves.

Otherwise, Jesus wouldn’t have said, “A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another: just as I have loved you, you also are to love one another” (John‬ 13‬:34‬).

This isn’t a mere suggestion — this is a command.

So how is it possible for imperfect humans to love like God does?

It is impossible — until two things occur:

1.) We must be born again so we possess God’s holy nature in our inner spirit, which is the part of us that communicates with God. Since God is love, we can’t love like He does without knowing Him.

2.) We must walk in His Spirit — that is, be consistently yielding to His will. This is how we love Him. Jesus said, “If you love me you will keep my commandments” (John 14:15).

These two steps place us in the most advantageous position to love like God does, instead of how we “love” as mere humans.

God did not create us to love for our own benefit, but that is what we consistently do.

We look to get love from others, rather than look to give it. It is no wonder the lost world can’t see the love of God in us!

We give love — hoping and expecting to receive it — rather than be possessed with the joy of simply giving it.

I speak from years of experience with giving selfish love, which is an oxymoron (like “dry rain”). It does not exist.

We are either selfish or loving — not both.

Yet when God is central in our life, He changes that!

When our cup is so full of God’s love that we don’t need love from anyone else, we experience the pure joy of giving love without expectation of receiving it.

Our cup is always easy to refill when we’re in the stream of God’s love.

God’s love for us enables us to freely love others so that when they see us — they know Him.
