The House Judiciary Committee, run by Chairman Jerry Nadler (D-N.Y.) on Monday will look over the evidence from the hearings of the Dem-led House Intelligence Committee and last week’s legal witnesses to try to make a case for the impeachment of President Donald Trump. The full House could vote on impeachment as early as this week.

If it does so on a mainly party line vote, as is expected, the president of the United States will be impeached by Friday.

And if that happens: “This would be the most partisan impeachment in the history of the country,” said Ken Starr, former Whitewater prosecutor, on Monday morning on Fox News, ahead of the start of the hearings.

But first House Democrats have to get through Monday and the GOP buzzsaw defense that is waiting for them. Lawyers for each side will be up first.

Given the disastrous testimony of all Democrat witnesses so far, House Judiciary Committee Dems will have a damage control operation on their hands.

They will attempt to take the witness hearsay and innuendo that flooded the hearings to date — and somehow make it into a coherent indictment.

Both sides of the committee have been poring over the pertinent documents over the weekend because they know Monday is essentially their closing case to the nation.

It is the legal, constitutional, and — most importantly — political justification of the Dems for putting President Trump on trial in the Senate.

For the GOP, it is the defense prelude to the Senate trial, in which they will go bent for leather to discredit the flimsy spin and propaganda the Dems have used so far in the impeachment charade.

By completing the poll, you agree to receive emails from LifeZette, occasional offers from our partners and that you've read and agree to our privacy policy and legal statement.

However, make no mistake: This is primarily a political exercise. The facts from the Dems will be laden with rationalizations and buttressing arguments that their witnesses were unable to make. Also, expect some excerpts from the discredited Russian hoax to make its way into the Monday proceedings, as the Dems will throw everything they have at the president and hope something, anything, sticks.

If you’re a sports fan, you might call Monday the league championships before the Super Bowl.

You’ll likely see Nadler lob wobbly passes to score argument points that he prays will justify the Dem game plan. You’ll see Rep. Doug Collins (R-Ga.) offer a vigorous defense of the president (and continue to audition for GOP scouts for his possible 2022 Georgia Senate run).

Be on watch for committee Dems, each given their own zigzag pass patterns, as they present what they believe to be evidence of impeachable offenses by the president to stop him and the GOP from doing a dance in the end zone.

All bets at this time point to that victory dance: The numbers in the Senate favor the GOP by about four votes.

And watch for Rep. Jim Jordan (R-Ohio) and Rep. Ken Buck (R-Colo.) to rip up the field like monster linebackers, intercepting Dem passes and stuffing quarterback Nadler and his Dem colleagues into the AstroTurf every chance they get.

More than anything, watch for the triumph of pure politics in what should be a sober and somber constitutional process.

That is where the Dems, in their mania to impeach the president ever since before he even took office, have brought the nation this day.

Let’s hope they are not ultimately successful so that America can finally rid itself of this never-ending political cheap shot.
