The media have been working its talking points by calling supporters of President Donald Trump a “cult.”
MSNBC host Joy Reid on Saturday seemed to be angry that some Republicans participated in a poll that found the majority of those saying President Trump is a better president than Abraham Lincoln.
To me, that is farfetched and a crazy reach — but if people want to believe that, let them.
However, Reid took exception as if she cared about the results — and called out Trump supporters as a “racial and religious cult of personality.”
She spent the better part of her radio show complaining about the association as if she had money on the poll results.
Reid also asked Miami Herald columnist Leonard Pitts what he made of the results.
Pitts said to her, “Is there a brick wall I can bang my head against a few times? … It sort of speaks further to the delusionary aspect of the Republican Party right now.”
“This is not a party, this is a cult, and it has been … for a very long time,” he added.
“And it wasn’t just this Abraham Lincoln quote … What was it a week or so ago, maybe not even that, that [Energy Secretary] Rick Perry said the Trump was the chosen one? And he wasn’t even the first person to say that.”
“No, he wasn’t,” agreed Reid.
“There is a lot of evidence that it is a racial and religious cult of personality,” said Reid — and more.
