Do we know God well enough to comprehend His goodness?

This question came to my mind many years ago when one of my children said I had acted in a way that was not caring.

I said, “Do you really not know me well enough to know that I would never intentionally hurt you? Don’t you know that much of what I do, and the choices I make, are to make your life better?”

I was hurt, angry, and insulted that my own child would presume my actions to be motivated by evil intentions.

It cut like a knife — but it spotlighted my own heart about my ignorance of God’s love for me.

God loves me more than I love my children.

He loves me more than I love myself.

If this is true, why do I run from Him?

Why is it so hard for me to spend time with Him and talk to Him?

Why do I insult His good heart on an infinitely greater scale than any human could ever insult mine?

If I really understood the goodness of God’s heart, I would not doubt His best intentions for my life.

I would be running into His arms first thing in the morning — every day.

The Bible explains God’s goodness like this: “He who did not spare his own Son but gave him up for us all, how will he not also with him graciously give us all things” (Romans 8‬:32‬).

The more time we spend in God’s presence, the more His goodness is revealed to us.

The Psalmist wrote, “Oh, how abundant is your goodness, which you have stored up for those who fear you and worked for those who take refuge in you” (Psalms 31‬:19). ‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬

When we know God, we know goodness.
