The Democrats’ 2004 nominee for president just endorsed Joe Biden to be his party’s 2020 nominee.
Former Secretary of State and former Sen. John Kerry (D-Mass.) gave his endorsement for president to former Vice President Joe Biden on Thursday — putting to rest any rumors that he might jump into the White House race himself.
“I believe Joe Biden is the president our country desperately needs right now, not because I’ve known Joe so long, but because I know Joe so well,” Kerry said in a statement touted by the Biden campaign.
“I’ve never before seen the world more in need of someone who, on day one, can begin the incredibly hard work of putting back together the world Donald Trump has smashed apart.”
“Joe will defeat Donald Trump next November,” he added.

“He’s the candidate with the wisdom and standing to fix what Trump has broken, to restore our place in the world, and improve the lives of working people here at home.”

On Friday, Kerry is scheduled to join Biden’s “No Malarkey” bus tour in Iowa.

Kerry will also campaign with Biden in New Hampshire on Sunday.

Kerry had teased another potential White House run for himself in April — but said he was waiting to see whether Biden would enter the race, which the former vice president eventually did the following month.
“I want to see what Joe is going to do,” Kerry said to The New York Times at that time.
Thursday’s endorsement of Biden comes after Kerry unveiled news of a coalition of world leaders and Hollywood celebrities dedicated to fighting climate change — something the former senator calls “World War Zero.”
The organization’s website says its primary goal is to find resources to combat global warming, similar to the way that Western allies battled the Nazis and Japan in World War II.
John Kerry lost his presidential bid to George W. Bush in 2004.
